Simhachalam

A Hindu temple called Simhadri or Simhachalam is in the Andhra Pradesh area of Simhachalam near Visakhapatnam City. The temple came into existence in the 11th century. It is dedicated to Sri Varaha Narasimha Swamy, a form of Vishnu. It is on top of the Simhachalam Hills. Simhachalam is one of the best places to visit in Vizag.

The main shrine of the building is in the Kalinga style. This square shrine faces west and has a tall tower on top. In front of it is a porch with a small tower and a Natya mandap with 16 pillars with carvings.

People can see the Inscriptions from 1098 AD on the shrine’s walls. Sandal paste is always used to hide God. The God’s natural shape is in Tribhanga, with two hands and the head of a lion. People can see this shape only during the “Chandanotsavam ” festival in April or May. The story goes that Narasimha’s form when he killed the demon Hiranyakashipu was so fierce that sandal paste is used to cover the picture all year.

Every year, millions of people from all over the country come to this temple, especially during the Chandanotsavam Festival Season. When Chandanotsavam comes around every year, Lord gets sandalwood one more time.

History 

The Simhachalam Temple, dating from 1098-1099 AD, contains scriptures from Chola king Kullotunga-I’s kingdom. An eastern Ganga queen, and a main sanctum built around 1267 AD by Orissa king Narasimha Dev. Its construction cannot be attributed to a single entity.

It is a belief that Sri Krishnadeva Raya went to the temple twice, in 1516 and 1519. Once after beating Gajapati Prataparudra Dev, the king of Orissa, on two separate occasions. People from the Vijayanagara country, like Sri Krishna Devaraya, wrote things in the Simhachalam temple that people can still read today.

There are several ways to get to the temple. One of the most famous is the 1,000-step path that starts at the base of a hill and is famous for the Bhairava Dwaram. From Madhava Dwaram to the top, a road is on one side.
